Brewer Babe

Welcome one and all to the new home of Brewer Babe! If you're reading this, then you found the new link on Milwaukeeworld.com and have come to join me here. Don't forget to sign up at the bottom of the page for your email subscription so you'll know when something new is posted. We expect to have several contributors to the new site, and they will be appearing over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, sit back and enjoy the latest Brewer news.

As I theorized in my last column on Milwaukeeworld.com, Dave Bush has won the 5th starting position in the pitching rotation. Manager Ned Yost made the announcement on Wednesday. The Brewers' fearless leader went on to say that Rick Helling's sore elbow had been a factor, (as I also mentioned in my last column), putting Rick behind and letting Dave come in and show his stuff. As a matter of fact, Dave is the only starting pitcher in camp with a winning record. Let's hope he can carry that record throughout the season! We'll get to see his stuff firsthand in his first scheduled appearance for the Brew Crew on Friday, April 7 against Arizona. Lucky for me that I happen to have tickets for that game! Congratulations Dave! I can't wait to see you in Miller Park.

Congratulations also go out to Prince Fielder and his wife, Chanel. The latest addition to their little team, a son named Haven Cole, was born Tuesday evening in Florida. Haven weighed in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces. Welcome to the world, Haven.

I also have an injury update for all you Brewer fans. Carlos Lee is still nursing a stiff groin, and sat out from today's game. It must not be too serious, because Ned Yost was quoted as saying that Carlos could have played, but to paraphrase, better safe than sorry. Hardy was back in the game yesterday, and seemed to be recovered from his back spasms, going 1-3 in six innings. Rickie Weeks has been taking swings in the batting cage, but Yost plans to hold him out for a few more days, even though Rickie is itching to get back the lineup. Damian Miller left the game early today with back stiffness, but hopes to be back for Friday. Other than that, everyone else, (except for Sheets), seems to be in top form and rearing to go.

Sheets, as predicted, will start the season on the disabled list, but appears to be making progress. He said today that his arm felt great, and catcher Chad Moeller said a lot of pitchers go out everyday with less stuff that Sheets was throwing today. The powers that be will get him into batting practice or a simulated game before clearing him to pitch in a minor league game.

Corey Koskie seems to be great acquisition so far, belting out his third and fourth homers of Spring Training in today's game against the Rangers. He also drove in three runs in the 10-5 win for the Brewers. Keep in mind that Corey missed several games with the team when he was playing for Canada in the World Baseball Classic, yet he has still managed to rack up four home runs already. This is another new Brewer that I'm anxious to see come Opening Day. I know I was a bit reluctant to welcome him at first, but he's proving to be a valuable asset so far. Again, let's hope that this ability carries over into the regular season.

Now for some really fun stuff! Before the season officially kicks off, Miller Park will host “Brewers on Deck” on Sunday, April 2. The players that make the Opening Day roster will be available for autographs for 45 minute intervals. Robin Yount and Bob Uecker will be available for autographs as well, but special tickets have to be acquired in advance. Full details are available on the Brewers homepage. Admission and parking is free, and concession stands will be open. Click here or on the link to the right to go to the Brewers homepage. You can bet your season tickets that this girl will be there bright and early to check out the team that's going to take us into the post season! OK that might be wishful thinking, but it's still a distinct possibility.

So there you go Brewer fans. Check out the new site and feel free to email your comments to me. Until next time, Go Brewers! 11 days and counting!
